Designing a Mixed Texture in Mg/Mg Laminated Composite via Bimetal Co-Extrusion to Ameliorate the Mechanical Anisotropy

Room-temperature (RT) mechanical anisotropy limits the broad applications of wrought magnesium (Mg) alloys. To weaken anisotropy, here, we proposed a design idea to create mixed texture. In present study, successfully fabricated Mg-3Y/Mg-5Li (W3/L5, wt.%) laminated composite, having texture with closely orthotropic shape, consisting an ED-split component in W3 layer and TD-split L5 layer, via bimetal co-extrusion (ED TD represent extrusion transverse directions, respectively). The results show that W3/L5 composite demonstrates better isotropy at RT, indicating forming is effective method reduce Mg alloys by co-extrusion. However, extremely poor interface shear strength, induced rich O element voids on interface, triggered bonding, leading worse ultimate strength elongation -to-failure. future works, controlling parameters or implementing suitable heat-treatment after will be necessary further ameliorate properties Mg/Mg composites
